Where did the F 450 GS come from? A brief history and trends
The GS family has set the direction in enduro tourism for years – from the legendary R 80 G/S to modern boxers and the mid-sized F series. The new BMW F 450 GS fits into the clear trend of downsizing: many motorcyclists are moving away from heavy, powerful machines in favor of lighter, more versatile models that are easier to manage in the city and off-road, while also being accessible with an A2 license. The presentation of the F 450 GS concept at the EICMA fair heralded just such a direction – and today, almost a year later, we receive a production extension of this idea.
New BMW F 450 GS: the GS segment experience in the A2 class 48 HP in iconic BMW GS styling.

The new BMW F 450 GS is another representative of the GS family in the A2 class with 48 HP, utilizing proven technical solutions and in the iconic GS styling.
In 2024, at the international motorcycle fair EICMA, BMW Motorrad presented a preview of a full-fledged GS model targeted specifically at the consistently growing segment of mid-capacity motorcycles.
The production version of the BMW F 450 GS is the answer to this preview: a versatile universal motorcycle combining functionality for everyday use, sporty dynamics, travel comfort, and off-road capabilities. In the "GS Trophy" equipment variant, it follows in the footsteps of the concept motorcycle. It stands out with a distinctive stylistic language and high quality, featuring advanced technical solutions such as lightweight magnesium components for maximum performance and low weight.
The balanced power-to-torque ratio, low weight, and typical GS ergonomics of the F 450 GS guarantee riding joy and confidence from the first meter ridden. The new F 450 GS combines the classic spirit of GS with modernity, ergonomics, and a strong character. There are clear references to its older sibling, the R 1300 GS.
"With the BMW F 450 GS, we are addressing a particularly broad group of customers. This motorcycle is designed for anyone who values maximum agility, versatility, pure riding pleasure, and state-of-the-art technology – whether they ride daily, go on long trips, or simply seek a lightweight, dynamic, and straightforward motorcycle. The current trend towards downsizing, moving away from heavy motorcycles to compact and versatile machines, indicates substantial interest in this segment. The F 450 GS offers the perfect combination of lively handling, agility, riding dynamics, and high-quality equipment – without compromising on quality or performance."
Astrid Neudecker, Product Manager BMW F 450 GS

An interesting technical solution and an evolution of the centrifugal clutch is the BMW Easy Ride (ERC). It eliminates the need for manual clutch lever operation while riding. This applies to all situations, from starting and shifting gears to demanding maneuvers off-road. BMW Motorrad sets a new standard in this class.
With the model's market introduction, a range of attractive options will be available: the F 450 GS can be equipped with an Akrapovic exhaust and original BMW Motorrad spoked wheels. This package perfectly combines sporty, dynamic performance, technological innovations, and GS genes.
Engine and Performance: small displacement, big character
Completely redesigned, the BMW F 450 GS is a sporty adventure motorcycle that will complement the existing portfolio of BMW Motorrad models. The designers focused on achieving excellent handling characteristics, strong performance, durability, and optimal ergonomics.
The design is oriented towards consistent implementation of the current GS stylistic language. Iconic elements such as the LED headlight with the "X" daytime running light and the characteristic fluid line of the motorcycle make its affiliation with the BMW Motorrad GS family immediately apparent.
Engine of the F 450 GS
Completely redesigned, smoothly operating, and full of character, the inline two-cylinder engine with crankpins shifted by 135 degrees provides dynamic riding on asphalt and off-road.
The heart of the new BMW F 450 GS is a completely new inline two-cylinder engine with fuel injection and a right-side stainless steel exhaust system. The new F 450 GS impresses with excellent performance and pulling power: it offers 35 kW (48 hp) at 8750 rpm and a maximum torque of 43 Nm at 6750 rpm. Thanks to the use of advanced materials and optimization of internal friction, this result is achieved with a displacement of exactly 420 cm³. This makes this engine one of the most compact and powerful in the A2 segment of two-cylinder units. It not only meets the strict requirements of EU5+ standards but is also exceptionally economical – consuming just 3.8 liters of fuel per 100 km. Combined with the 14-liter fuel tank, a range of over 350 km can be achieved. The service interval is a standard for BMW motorcycles at 10,000 km.
Unique in the motorcycle market, the engine is equipped with a crankshaft featuring crankpins shifted by 135 degrees, which, combined with a single balance shaft, is a technical revelation: this design provides characterful, exciting riding while simultaneously reducing unwanted vibrations to an exceptionally low level.

ERC and Transmission: when the clutch "thinks" for you
Significantly increases dynamic handling and riding comfort.
A technical highlight of the new BMW F 450 GS is the Easy Ride Clutch (ERC). Its heart is a precision centrifugal element that engages the clutch depending on the engine speed.
This system is standard in the GS Trophy variant and is optionally available in all other model variants. In combination with Shift Assistant Pro, it completely eliminates the need for manual clutch lever operation – from starting and shifting gears to demanding maneuvers.
However, the clutch lever still operates, allowing the rider to manually intervene at any moment if needed – for example, to lift the front wheel over an obstacle or improve control while descending on a slippery surface.
Technically, ERC is based on an advanced centrifugal clutch. Unlike conventional systems, it remains closed in overrun conditions. This ensures natural, familiar, and predictable handling in every situation, comparable to a traditional clutch. Engine braking functions fully until just before stopping – only after reaching idle speed does the ERC open automatically, reliably preventing engine stalling.
The system provides greater dynamics, control, and comfort – both while maneuvering, in city traffic, on winding roads, and off-road.
Transmission
Six-speed transmission and power transfer on the left side. Shift Assistant Pro for quick gear changes without using the clutch.
The six-speed transmission, also redesigned, transfers torque to an X-ring chain located on the left side. To ensure quick gear changes without the use of a clutch, the new F 450 GS offers Shift Assistant Pro in all equipment variants except for the base variant. It is possible to add Shift Assistant Pro to the base version.
Electronics - Riding Modes
Standard riding modes "Rain," "Road," and "Enduro," as well as ABS Pro, DBC, DTC, and MSR (engine brake control), provide plenty of riding joy and safety. An additional "Enduro Pro" riding mode is available from the Exclusive equipment variant.
The BMW F 450 GS standardly offers three riding modes: "Rain," "Road," and "Enduro," allowing the motorcycle to be tailored to individual preferences. Standard equipment also includes ABS Pro, dynamic braking control (DBC), dynamic traction control (DTC), and engine braking control (MSR).
An additional "Enduro Pro" mode offered from the Exclusive equipment variant is intended for off-road riding with aggressive tread tires and allows disabling the ABS on the rear wheel.
Chassis, Ergonomics, and GS Styling
Newly developed chassis with a steel tube frame for optimal rigidity, durability, and handling precision. Short wheelbase ensures nimbleness and agile handling.
The new BMW F 450 GS also features a completely new chassis concept. The priority for the designers was agile handling, optimal ergonomics, high precision, and riding stability. Specifically developed for the BMW F 450 GS, the trellis frame is built from welded steel tubes and forged components. The frame is designed to be lightweight but sturdy, with the inline two-cylinder engine serving as a load-bearing element.
The front wheel is guided by a KYB upside-down telescopic fork, while the rear wheel is guided by a cast aluminum double swingarm with a central KYB spring strut featuring progressive damping.
Control of the front wheel is ensured by a KYB upside-down telescopic fork with high torsional rigidity and a 43 mm inner tube diameter. The Sport and GS Trophy variants are equipped with what's called "sport suspension." The fork has compression and rebound damping adjustment. The rear wheel is controlled by a closed, thus exceptionally torsionally stiff yet lightweight double-sided swingarm made of pressure-cast aluminum directly connected to the central KYB spring strut (adjustable preload and rebound damping) featuring jump-dependent damping derived from rallying, which is a unique feature in this segment.

Wheels and Tires Suited to Typical BMW GS Applications
The new BMW F 450 GS is equipped with lightweight yet durable aluminum wheel rims. It has tubeless tires for both road and off-road riding, sized 100/90-19 at the front and 130/80-17 at the rear. Additionally, BMW Motorrad's original accessory range offers spoked wheels.
A robust braking system with BMW Motorrad ABS Pro ensures safe braking even in a lean. Dynamic braking control (DBC) and dynamic brake light as additional safety features.
At the front wheel of the new BMW F 450 GS, there is a floating single disc brake with a 4-piston fixed Brembo caliper and a 310 mm brake disc, providing excellent and stable braking. At the rear wheel, a single disc brake with a 2-piston floating caliper and a 240 mm disc is utilized.
The new BMW F 450 GS is already equipped with the BMW Motorrad ABS Pro system as standard. ABS Pro also provides greater safety while cornering, allowing braking with ABS support while in a lean position. Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) increases safety during braking, even in difficult situations, preventing unintended throttle opening. The dynamic brake light effectively warns vehicles behind during braking.
Optimal ergonomics and equipment ensure comfort, riding pleasure, and the motorcycle's agility on asphalt and off-road.
The thoughtful ergonomic triangle and high, close-to-body handlebars made from tapering aluminum tubes provide the perfect riding position in any conditions. The bodywork and the 14-liter fuel tank beneath it are designed for optimal body support and good contact with the knees, both when seated and standing off-road. A wide range of accessories is also available to meet individual rider needs, including handlebar risers, rally seats, and a low seat option.
Variants and Options

Three seating variants, adjustable hand levers, handlebar risers, and secure footrests with height-adjustable gear and foot brake levers ensure optimal comfort for both road and off-road riding.
The new BMW F 450 GS comes standard with a two-part seat (845 mm). An original BMW accessory low seat in black (830 mm) and a high Rallye seat in black, white, and red (865 mm) are available. Additional adjustment options are offered by standard lever adjustments on the handlebars and optional handlebar risers of 20 mm made from high-strength anodized silver aluminum.
The new BMW F 450 GS comes standard with a footpeg system featuring removable rubber pads with a serrated surface that performs well off-road. A highly practical feature is the easy height adjustment of the foot brake lever by 20 mm in two positions, allowing adaptation for road and off-road riding. The gear lever also has adjustable height.
Wider enduro footpegs are offered as standard from the Exclusive variant or as optional accessories.
