Start Your Fuel Journal →Once a year, Chery invites its world to Wuhu. Dealers, partners, journalists and owners from dozens of countries come to the city where the group was born, and the company shows what it has been building. From October 20 to 23, 2026, at the Chery International User Summit, I was one of them. Here is the whole week in one place.
Table of Contents
I travelled to Wuhu as a guest of JETOUR, one of the Chery Group's brands. JETOUR paid for my flights, hotels and meals. It gave me no publishing guidelines and had no say in what I wrote. All opinions and impressions are my own.
At a glance
- What: Chery WCWL 2026 (With Chery With Love), the Chery Group's big annual gathering in its home town. This year it ran under the theme "ECO-tech, for our future life 2026" and combined the Chery International User Summit with the 2026 JETOUR Global Technology Experience Day.
- Where: Wuhu, Anhui Province, China, with side trips to Moganshan and Xiazhu Lake in Zhejiang Province.
- When: October 20–23, 2026. I arrived on October 19 and stayed until the end.
- Highlights: the Global Innovation Conference (2,000+ guests), AiMOGA robots and Robotaxi demos, the JETOUR Global Technology Experience Day with off-road drives and an amphibious SUV, the Global Ecosystem Conference and the group carnival.
What WCWL means
WCWL stands for With Chery With Love, Chery's global programme for owners and fans. In many countries it runs owners' clubs, meet-ups, family days and charity projects. The Wuhu gathering is where that whole community, and the business around it, comes together once a year.
In 2026 each of the group's brands brought its own guests: journalists, influencers and other media people from its markets. The programme was a mix of looking and doing. You could walk around the new models, drive some of them and watch crash tests. Then there was the future stuff: driverless taxis, robots and flying vehicles that look more like big drones with passenger seats than cars with wings.
I came with JETOUR, so most of my week was about its off-roaders and what they can do away from tarmac. More on that below.

Why Wuhu
If you have never heard of Wuhu, you are not alone. It is a city of over three million people on the Yangtze River in Anhui Province, about 40 minutes by high-speed train from Nanjing. For Chery it is everything: headquarters, factories, the R&D Center and the place the company was founded in the 1990s.
The Chery Group today is much more than the Chery brand. In Wuhu I saw Chery, EXEED, OMODA & JAECOO, JETOUR, iCAR, LEPAS, LUXEED and Freelander, plus AiMOGA, the group's robotics brand. Some of these you may already see on European roads.
October 20: Global Innovation Conference
The week's main stage was the Chery Group's Global Innovation Conference at the R&D Center in Wuhu, with more than 2,000 international guests, media and users.
Chairman Yin Tongyue looked back at Chery's 30-plus years and set the tone: AI is redefining not just the car, but the company and the whole industry. CTO Gao Xinhua summed up the technology strategy in one sentence: "Creating greater value for human freedom."
Around the conference, the R&D Center hosted exhibitions and hands-on zones. The highlights:
AiMOGA robots

AiMOGA is Chery's robotics arm. The lineup on show included Mobo, a robotic nurse, a traffic robot, ARGOS and a brain-controlled smart wheelchair. The idea: the same AI, sensors and engineering that go into cars can help in hospitals, on the streets and in everyday life.

Robotaxi
Chery demonstrated L4 Robotaxi technology: booking a ride through an app and driverless rides in a controlled environment.
This is not only a group-level experiment. JETOUR already offers autonomous driving in its own cars, though for now only in China. From what we were told, it works well enough that Ke Chuandeng, President of JETOUR International, says he gets from his house to the office without touching the steering wheel.
Will it come to Europe? Nobody gave us a date, or even a yes. On paper it is serious competition for Tesla. The real question is political: will European regulators let Chinese companies run this kind of service on their roads?
Energy and data
Less photogenic but arguably more important: the Sky Dome supercomputing center, the Star Sea big data platform, an automotive-specific large AI model and the group's chip strategy, V2G (vehicle-to-grid) bidirectional charging that turns cars into energy storage for the grid, and integrated solar, storage and charging systems.
Only one thing came with anything like a date. We were told a JETOUR model with a solar panel should arrive next year. Do not expect the full SOLAIR demo car I describe later in this article, but it shows the solar idea is heading for production.
A fair warning: much of this is group-level technology and research. Not all of it will appear in the cars you can buy next year, and some of it may never leave the lab. That is what an innovation conference is for.

Evening: beach market on the Yangtze
JETOUR closed the day with a beach camping dinner at Dalongwan, on the north bank of the Yangtze opposite the city centre, powered entirely by its cars' V2L outlets.
October 21–22: JETOUR takes us off-road
For the next two days the JETOUR group left Wuhu for Zhejiang Province, as part of the 2026 JETOUR Global Technology Experience Day:
- an off-road "treasure hunt" through the bamboo hills of Moganshan in the T2 and G700, with a night at a campsite,
- the G700 Ark Edition, an amphibious SUV, driven on water,
- the F700 plug-in hybrid pickup clearing a "fallen tree" from the route,
- a specially modified G700 SOLAIR that makes electricity from a solar cover and drinking water from the air,
- crested ibis conservation work at Xiazhu Lake wetland.

Each of these gets its own detailed article, coming soon on moto-trips.com:
- the full JETOUR Global Technology Experience Day 2026 report,
- the JETOUR G700 off-road test,
- the JETOUR T2 off-road test,
- the JETOUR G700 Ark Edition amphibious SUV,
- the JETOUR G700 SOLAIR,
- the JETOUR F700 pickup.
October 23: Global Ecosystem Conference and the carnival
The last day brought the whole group back together for the Global Ecosystem Conference and, in the evening, the Chery Group carnival.

The conference had everything you would expect from a car company's big annual show: sales results, financial results, where the Chery Group now stands among the world's carmakers, new models and global plans. The number that stuck with me: according to the figures shown on stage, the Chery Group was ninth in the world by global sales in the first half of 2026, and in August alone it was fifth. A few years ago most Europeans had never heard the name.
Exports are where Chery is strongest. The group has been China's number one car exporter for 23 years in a row, and roughly one in every four cars exported from China is a Chery Group car. In one month this year it shipped more than 200,000 cars abroad, a single-month export record for any Chinese carmaker. There was also a long awards ceremony with prizes in more categories than I could keep track of. Poland was on stage too, with Polish winners in categories such as Global Voice Ambassador and Referral Star.

What I did not expect was how much time went to things that have nothing to do with selling cars. Chery talked about protecting endangered species and the natural environment, and about its work with UNICEF on early education for young children in developing countries. This was not a slide squeezed in at the end. It came up again and again during the week. At Xiazhu Lake we saw some of it in person: JETOUR supports the conservation of the crested ibis there, a bird that was once down to a handful of birds in the wild.

You can be cynical about corporate social responsibility, and some of it is always marketing. But a company that flies journalists from around the world to a wetland to look at birds clearly wants to be judged on more than horsepower and price.

Then came the carnival, and it was simply brilliant. Think of it as a food festival with the whole world on the menu. Outside a huge main tent stood rows of smaller ones, each serving dishes from a different country, and you could graze your way around the globe in an hour.
Inside, the stage never went quiet. There was a lot of Chinese culture, not just singing but dance and gymnastics shows too, and then acts from the countries Chery sells in: South Africa, Thailand, Germany, Spain and more. After four days of conferences and off-road tracks, it was the best possible way to end the week.
What I take home from WCWL 2026
- Scale: this is what impressed me most. Guests from all over the world, a long list of brands, and more cars, robots and technology than you can take in over a few days. Add the work on the environment and endangered species, and you see a group that thinks well beyond the next model launch.
- Tech: the claims are bold. One that stuck: a new charging technology said to add 500 km of range in five minutes. In China I have no doubt the infrastructure for that kind of charging will be built, and robotaxis and robots will follow.
- Brands: for me, JETOUR is one of the most interesting. Outside China you only get a fraction of what it builds. From my conversations with guests from South America, Africa and Europe, the same story comes up everywhere: a limited choice of models and powertrains, often with no hybrids at all. If the full range ever arrives, the old guard should be worried. What JETOUR showed us off-road was in a different league from what most rivals offer.
- The open question: Europe. The technology is there, but I am sure many here will be wary of it, mainly because of fears that a foreign government could use connected cars for surveillance. Whether Chinese self-driving cars and ultra-fast charging ever reach our roads may depend less on engineers than on politicians.
