Start Your Fuel Journal →OMODA 5 was the model that introduced the brand to British buyers. At the 2026 Paris Motor Show, OMODA revealed the new OMODA 5 NEXT – and this is far more than a facelift. It is larger, has an all-new cabin with a huge screen, two electrified powertrains and more driver-assistance technology. UK launch timing and pricing have yet to be confirmed. Here is what has changed and what it could mean for UK drivers.
Table of Contents
At a glance
- What it is: a new generation of the OMODA 5, with refreshed exterior styling and a completely redesigned interior.
- Two powertrains: a 224PS hybrid (5.3L/100km / 53.3mpg, more than 559 miles of combined range) or a 211PS EV (61kWh battery, 267-mile WLTP range).
- Both are front-wheel drive and automatic. There is no four-wheel-drive version.
- Larger body: 4.53 metres long.
- New cockpit: an 8.9-inch instrument display and a 15.6-inch central screen, replacing the previous 12.3-inch unit.
- UK launch: not yet confirmed. UK pricing has not been announced either.
A bestseller gets a second life
Before the Paris show, we knew little about the OMODA 5 NEXT beyond its futuristic look, technology focus and promise of greater comfort. Now the manufacturer has revealed the important details – and they go much further than the “NEXT” badge suggests.
The changes are not limited to new bumpers. The interior, powertrain line-up, equipment and even the body dimensions are new. The range is expected to remain simple: two powertrains, hybrid and electric, plus Comfort and Premium trim levels.

Exterior: cleaner lines and extra length
The front end is cleaner than that of the current OMODA 5, while the side profile retains the proportions of a compact SUV. At the rear are lightning-bolt-style lights, also seen on the OMODA 4, along with a more geometric overall shape. The exhaust finishers are hidden, the 18-inch alloys have a new design, and a two-tone paint finish will be available at extra cost.
Specification | New OMODA 5 |
|---|---|
Length | 4.53m |
Width | 1.82m |
Height | 1.59m |
Wheelbase | 2.61m |
Wheels | 18 inches |
Seats | 5 |
The car is longer, but its 2.61m wheelbase is shorter than that of the smaller new OMODA 4, which measures 2.70m between the axles. We will need to see it in person before judging whether those extra centimetres translate into more usable cabin space. OMODA has not yet published boot capacities; it has only confirmed that they differ between the hybrid and EV versions.

Interior: this is where the biggest change is
The dashboard is entirely new. The driver gets an 8.9-inch digital instrument cluster, while the centre console is dominated by a 15.6-inch screen. The outgoing OMODA 5 used a 12.3-inch display. There are new storage areas in the centre console, with the cabin finished in black and grey.
The infotainment system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and works with the new OMODA & JAECOO app. The large display looks impressive in photographs, but what matters on a long drive is how many functions still have proper physical controls – and whether you can adjust the heating without diving through menus. We will find that out once the car reaches the road.

Hybrid: a familiar system, with plenty of detail
The hybrid uses the same system already announced for the OMODA 4. Its fifth-generation 1.5 TGDI DHE petrol engine produces 143PS and 215Nm, operates on the Miller cycle and is claimed to achieve 44.5% thermal efficiency. It is supported by two electric motors integrated into the 1DHT transmission: a 150kW main motor and a 100kW generator.

The NMC battery has a modest 1.83kWh capacity, but can briefly supply up to 85kW for 10 seconds, intended to help with overtaking. OMODA also says the battery works in temperatures from -35°C to 60°C and has an IP68 protection rating. The system switches automatically between six modes: EV, series, petrol, parallel, stationary charging and energy recuperation. There is no need to plug it in.
The claimed 5.3L/100km (53.3mpg) fuel use and 51-litre tank add up to more than 559 miles of range. That is 0.1L/100km behind the smaller OMODA 4, which is hardly surprising given the larger body.
EV: quicker than the hybrid
The OMODA 5 NEXT EV has 211PS and a 61kWh LFP battery. WLTP range is claimed at 267 miles, with consumption rated at 15.9kWh/100km. The EV is the quickest model in the range, reaching 62mph in 7.2 seconds.
Charging:
- DC up to 130kW, from 30 to 80% in 28 minutes;
- AC up to 11kW, from 10 to 100% in around seven hours – comfortably overnight at home.
An interesting point of comparison is the OMODA 4 EV. It has a larger 67kWh battery, a claimed range of more than 280 miles and a shorter 30–80% charging time of 22 minutes, despite a slightly lower charging peak. If outright range matters more to you than exterior size, it is a comparison worth keeping in mind.

Warranty and servicing
Coverage | UK position |
|---|---|
Vehicle | OMODA 5 NEXT terms have not yet been confirmed; current OMODA UK models are covered for 7 years or 100,000 miles. |

Final UK warranty, roadside-assistance and servicing arrangements for the OMODA 5 NEXT should be confirmed closer to launch. For buyers planning long trips, the strength and reach of the retailer and service network will matter just as much as the headline specification.
OMODA 5 NEXT or OMODA 4?
Both cars debuted in Paris, use the same T1X platform and have very similar powertrains. The differences are still significant:

|---|---|---|
Length | 4.42m | 4.53m |
Wheelbase | 2.70m | 2.61m |
Central display | 13.2in, portrait format | 15.6in |
Hybrid: economy / range | 5.2L/100km / more than 590 miles | 5.3L/100km / more than 559 miles |
EV: battery / range | 67kWh / more than 280 miles | 61kWh / 267 miles (WLTP) |
EV: 0–62mph | 7.9sec | 7.2sec |
EV: DC charging, 30–80% | Approx. 22 minutes, up to 120kW | 28 minutes, up to 130kW |
Sales launch | UK: expected during 2027 | UK timing not yet announced |
The OMODA 4 is shorter but has a longer wheelbase and, in EV form, a larger battery. The OMODA 5 NEXT is longer, has a larger screen and a quicker electric version. Which makes the better touring companion will ultimately come down to boot space, seat comfort and UK pricing.
What we still do not know
- UK pricing,
- the UK on-sale date,
- boot capacity for both versions,
- maximum towing weight,
- its Euro NCAP result,
- final homologated technical figures,
- whether a pure-petrol version will remain in the range. For now, OMODA lists only the hybrid and EV.
