Start Your Fuel Journal →We recently reported that the OMODA 4 would be one of the key attractions on the OMODA & JAECOO stand in Paris. Now the car is on show and the manufacturer has released the important details: two powertrains, dimensions, equipment and a sales timetable. Here is what it means if you are looking for a compact crossover for everyday driving and weekends away.
Table of Contents
At a glance
- What it is: a compact crossover measuring 4.42 metres long, based on the T1X platform shared with the OMODA 5 and OMODA 7.
- Two powertrains: a full HEV hybrid (224PS, 54.3mpg) and an EV (211PS, 67kWh, more than 280 miles of range).
- Both are front-wheel drive and use automatic transmissions. There is no four-wheel-drive version.
- Boot space: 340 litres, expanding to more than 1,120 litres with the rear seats folded.
- Trim levels: Comfort and Premium. The ADAS safety suite is standard.
- European sales: spring 2027. UK pricing has not yet been confirmed.
From teaser to hard facts

The initial preview of the OMODA & JAECOO stand focused largely on the Cyber Mecha design language, the “BE THE ONE” slogan and the brand’s VALORANT partnership. At that point, the hybrid system was the only meaningful technical detail. At the 2026 Paris Motor Show, the manufacturer has now filled in the gaps: an electric version, dimensions, equipment details and a planned on-sale date.
The OMODA 4 is aimed at younger, active drivers for whom screens and smartphone apps are everyday essentials. It is due to reach Europe in spring 2027, joining the OMODA 5, 7 and 9 in the range.
Dimensions and bodywork
Specification | Figure |
|---|---|
Length | 4.42m |
Width | 1.86m |
Height | 1.57m |
Wheelbase | 2.70m |
Wheels | 18in |
Boot | 340 litres / more than 1,120 litres |
The styling develops the Cyber Mecha theme, while the designers call the overall form “Mecha Flow”: sharp geometric edges replace soft curves, with inspiration drawn from sci-fi armour. At the rear, the lightning-bolt-shaped lights are the most eye-catching feature. It is a car designed to stand out in a car park, and on that score it certainly succeeds.
The more practical figure is in the final row of the table. At 340 litres, the boot is closer to supermini territory than that of larger crossovers. It should be adequate day to day, but a week away for two with full luggage will require careful packing.

OMODA 4 HEV
This is a full hybrid rather than a plug-in hybrid, so there is no need to look for a charge point. The system combines a 1.5 TGDI DHE petrol engine (143PS, 215Nm), two electric motors, a 1DHT transmission and a 1.83kWh NMC battery. The engine uses the Miller cycle and is claimed to achieve 44.5% thermal efficiency.
The claimed 54.3mpg and 51-litre fuel tank add up to more than 590 miles of total range. On a long holiday run, that should mean fewer fuel stops than in many cars, although real-world motorway economy will have to wait for a proper road test.
OMODA 4 EV

The electric model has 211PS, a 67kWh LFP battery and a claimed range of more than 280 miles. It can charge at up to 120kW on DC power, with a 30–80% charge said to take around 22 minutes. That is a sizeable battery for a car of this size, so on paper the OMODA 4 EV looks suited to more than urban use.
Interior and equipment
The cabin has two displays: an 8.9in digital instrument panel and a portrait-format 13.2in central touchscreen handling media, climate control and vehicle settings. The steering wheel is flattened at the top and bottom, while the interior as a whole aims for a motorsport-inspired look.

It is good to see the ADAS suite — including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance and collision-avoidance systems — fitted from the entry-level Comfort trim. A notable Premium feature is RPA remote parking: you can step out and guide the car into a tight space from outside using the remote control.
What is next: OMODA X and a test in China

Paris is not the end of the new-model activity. From 18 to 23 October, Chery’s International User Summit will take place in Wuhu, China, where the OMODA X will make its world debut. The OMODA 4 will also take part in the long-distance Super Hybrid Marathon, allowing journalists to test the SHS powertrain in real-world conditions.
What it means for UK buyers
UK pricing for the OMODA 4 has not yet been announced, although it is expected to sit below the OMODA 5 and early indications point to a starting price below £25,000. For context, the current OMODA 5 SHS-H self-charging hybrid starts at £25,755 on the road in the UK.
At this stage, the strongest arguments are the hybrid’s claimed fuel economy and the EV’s large-for-the-class battery. The weaker points are the modest boot and the lack of four-wheel drive — relevant if your trips regularly involve rough tracks to campsites or accommodation. OMODA has not yet stated a towing limit.
What we still do not know
- UK prices and the precise UK on-sale date,
- maximum towing weight,
- warranty terms for the car and battery,
- its Euro NCAP rating,
- final type-approved technical figures.
