“Performance That Goes Beyond”: what does it mean?
That was the banner under which Geely unveiled the Monjaro in Paris, alongside the urban E2 and the off-road-focused Project KO11. In Geely’s view, performance is not simply about power and acceleration. It also means assured motorway manners, long-distance comfort, composure on poorer surfaces and everyday practicality. It may sound like brochure language, but those are exactly the qualities that matter on a proper road trip.
“Monjaro offers an experience characteristic of flagship vehicles: from the way it responds to road conditions, through the confidence provided by its safety systems, to the comfort of its interior and its intelligent technologies.” — Aiden He, CEO, Geely Brand Europe
The Monjaro name references Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain, and is intended to represent a balance of strength and composure.

Powertrain and versions
At the heart of the car is the EM-i Super Hybrid system: a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine developed specifically for plug-in hybrids, paired with an energy-management system. The combustion engine and electric motor can each provide propulsion, which Geely also presents as an additional layer of system redundancy.
Pro | Max | Pro+ | Ultra | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Drivetrain | FWD | FWD | e-AWD | e-AWD |
Battery (LFP) | 18.4kWh | 18.4kWh | 29.8kWh | 29.8kWh |
System output | 273PS (201kW) | 273PS (201kW) | 334PS (246kW) | 334PS (246kW) |
Torque | — | — | 667Nm | 667Nm |
0–62mph | 7.7 sec | 7.7 sec | 5.8 sec | 5.8 sec |
Top speed | 124mph | 124mph | 118mph | 118mph |
Maximum DC charging | 38kW | 38kW | 78kW | 78kW |
Both batteries use LFP (lithium iron phosphate) chemistry. This type of battery is generally valued for durability and its ability to cope well with frequent full charges.
Range and charging
- up to 72 miles in fully electric mode (WLTP),
- up to 573 miles of combined range (WLTP),
- 30–80% in around 15 minutes in versions with 78kW charging.
If you can charge at home or at work, the claimed 72-mile WLTP electric range should comfortably cover many everyday commutes without starting the petrol engine. In real-world use, particularly during a British winter, expect less. For longer journeys, Geely quotes more than 570 miles of combined WLTP range, so fuel stops should be dictated more by a coffee break than an empty tank.
Driving and suspension

The Monjaro is based on the GEA Evo architecture. It can decouple the front or rear axle and supports torque vectoring. According to Geely, the electric e-AWD system reacts within milliseconds and distributes power according to the situation, whether that means accelerating, overtaking on the motorway or tackling a long uphill climb.
The CDC (Continuous Damping Control) suspension can adjust its damping to the road surface in as little as 20 milliseconds. The driver can select from three damper settings — Comfort, Standard and Sport — plus six drive modes.
Safety
- Seven airbags and a reinforced body structure,
- Geely’s own battery safety system,
- 13 Level 2 driver-assistance functions and nine systems designed to improve driving comfort,
- a “transparent chassis” function using 540-degree cameras,
- 21 extreme-condition safety tests carried out by Geely.
The Monjaro EM-i has not yet been tested by Euro NCAP. Geely says the car has been engineered with a five-star result in mind.
Interior and comfort
The Monjaro measures 4,800mm long, 1,895mm wide and 1,700mm tall, with a 2,845mm wheelbase. Rear-seat passengers get up to 130mm of knee room.
- Boot: 633 litres, increasing to 2,183 litres with the seats folded. It can take items up to 2.8 metres long.
- 34 storage areas in the cabin.
- Massage seats: eight massage points, six programmes and three intensity levels. The front seats are also heated and ventilated.
- Refinement: double laminated front glass, acoustic materials covering around 89% of the cabin and 23 sealing measures. Geely claims tyre noise is reduced by 45%.
- Opening panoramic roof.
Dashboard and infotainment

- 15.4-inch central touchscreen, 12.3-inch digital instruments and a 25.6-inch head-up display,
- Flyme Auto with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto,
- Flyme Sound: 16 speakers, a 1,000W amplifier and 7.1.2 surround sound,
- voice control in 18 languages and across four zones of the cabin, covering around 600 functions,
- the built-in Xingrui Intelligent Large Language Model.
Useful extras for travellers
For us, this is one of the most interesting parts of the specification:
- V2L up to 6.6kW, allowing external equipment to be powered from the car’s battery. At a campsite, that is enough for a kettle, a portable fridge or charging e-bikes.
- Towing capacity of up to 1,500kg. A lightweight trailer carrying a touring motorcycle should sit comfortably within that limit, making this a credible option if you would rather tow your bike to the Alps or Balkans and begin riding once you get there.
- Kerb weight: 1,900–2,080kg.

Monjaro EM-i vs Starray EM-i: what is different?
The Starray EM-i sits below the Monjaro in Geely’s plug-in hybrid SUV range. The Monjaro is larger and more powerful, but it is built around the same core electrified-powertrain concept.
Starray EM-i | Monjaro EM-i | |
|---|---|---|
System output | 262PS | 273PS / 334PS |
0–62mph | 8.1 sec | 7.7 sec / 5.8 sec |
Four-wheel drive | No | Yes (Pro+ and Ultra) |
Electric range (WLTP) | Up to 52 miles | Up to 72 miles |
Combined range | Up to 586 miles | Up to 573 miles |
Boot | 428–2,065 litres | 633–2,183 litres |
The headline differences are the four-wheel-drive option, around 200 litres more boot space and a longer electric range. Whether those gains justify the extra outlay will depend on the UK price list, which has yet to be announced.
